Since he doesn't actually want to sell any of his books? Even if it's a private library in case he's worried of the general public destroying his collection? It's just in my head that would make a little bit more sense, but IDK.
Librarians have to interact with members of the public. They have to keep regular opening hours. People take the books away and the books do not always come back.
Much better to have a bookshop, and then just not sell books. Many booksellers of my acquaintance have been doing it for years.
